Microphone Preamps
Microphone preamps raise low-level microphone signals to a suitable operating level and shape the gain structure, noise performance and character of a recording chain. Transparent, solid-state and tube designs differ in headroom, available gain, transformer topology and harmonic saturation. Microphone type, required gain, phantom power, input impedance, connections and the intended role of the preamp should guide the final choice.
