The PSI Audio A23-Ms Studio Black is a Swiss-made, fully analogue three-way active monitor for engineers who need reliable full-range monitoring, high headroom and precise mix translation in nearfield and midfield positions. Handmade and individually calibrated in Switzerland, it combines a powerful low-frequency section, dedicated dome midrange driver and precisely integrated tweeter in a compact professional cabinet.
 
PSI Audio follows a deliberately analogue monitor philosophy. The A23-Ms uses no DSP in its audio path and no digital crossover processing. Instead, purpose-built drivers, analogue crossover networks, dedicated power amplification and individually measured calibration are used to achieve accuracy, transient precision and controlled stereo imaging. This makes the monitor particularly useful for critical decisions about tonal balance, dynamics, depth, panning, low-frequency control and final translation.
 
The three-way system combines a 170 mm woofer, a 56 mm dome midrange driver and a 25 mm dome tweeter. By assigning the critical midrange to its own dedicated driver, the A23-Ms provides focused vocal placement, clear low-mid separation and detailed reproduction of dense arrangements. It is especially effective when assessing the balance between bass, vocals, guitars, piano, snare presence and spatial effects.
The midrange and tweeter module can be rotated by 90 degrees. This allows the A23-Ms to be installed vertically or horizontally while preserving the intended driver orientation and dispersion behaviour. It is a practical advantage for studios where console geometry, monitor stands, display placement or room layout require horizontal positioning.
 
With a frequency range from 34 Hz to 23 kHz at −6 dB and a tight ±1.5 dB tolerance from 39 Hz to 20 kHz, the A23-Ms delivers meaningful full-range information without automatically requiring a subwoofer. It enables confident decisions about kick drum fundamentals, bass guitar, synthesizer low end, low-frequency buildup and the relationship between bottom-end weight and midrange clarity. For larger rooms, immersive-monitoring systems or applications requiring additional deep-bass headroom, it can be expanded with PSI Audio subwoofers and AvAA acoustic-treatment solutions.
PSI Audio’s CPR, or Compensated Phase Response, is designed to control phase behaviour through the crossover regions. The result is a stable stereo image, clear transient reproduction and dependable depth perception. This is valuable when making decisions about panning, vocal placement, reverb tails, time-based effects and mono compatibility.
The A23-Ms also uses PSI Audio’s AOI, or Active Output Impedance, technology. AOI is designed to control driver behaviour and reduce resonance effects, contributing to differentiated bass response, tighter low-frequency decay and stable performance on complex programme material. Together with the three-way architecture and analogue crossover system, it helps the monitor remain composed and informative at both lower and higher monitoring levels.
Dedicated amplification provides 140 W RMS for the woofer, 70 W RMS for the midrange and 50 W RMS for the tweeter. The monitor reaches 108 dB continuous SPL, 111 dB short-term SPL and up to 122 dB peak SPL at one metre. Its 85° horizontal and 40° vertical dispersion creates a broad, usable listening area while helping to limit unnecessary energy toward desks, ceilings and floors.
The A23-Ms Studio Black includes a balanced XLR input plus rear-panel input-sensitivity and room-adaptation controls for integration with professional monitor controllers, converters and analogue signal chains. It is ideally suited to listening distances from approximately 1.2 to 3.5 metres, covering larger nearfield setups and compact midfield control rooms.
 
The Studio Black finish gives the A23-Ms a discreet, professional appearance while retaining the same fully analogue PSI Audio platform.
