The PSI Audio A17-M Studio Metal Black is a Swiss-made, fully analogue two-way active nearfield monitor for production, mixing, editing and critical listening. With AOI driver control, CPR phase-response technology, a powerful 7-inch-class woofer and a handcrafted tweeter, it provides accurate translation, controlled bass and stable imaging without DSP in the audio path.

The PSI Audio A17-M Studio Metal Black is a high-resolution active nearfield monitor for producers, mix engineers and studios that need professional accuracy without moving to a larger midfield system. Handmade and individually calibrated in Switzerland, it combines a compact footprint with the headroom, bass reach and imaging precision required for demanding music production, post-production and critical editing work.

The A17-M follows PSI Audio’s fully analogue monitor philosophy. There is no DSP in the audio path and no digital crossover processing. Instead, PSI Audio relies on purpose-built drivers, dedicated analogue amplification, carefully controlled crossover integration and individual anechoic calibration. This approach provides direct transient response, very low system latency and a stable, predictable reference for decisions about tonal balance, dynamics, panning, low-frequency control and mix translation.

The two-way system combines a 175 mm woofer with a 25 mm dome tweeter. The compact bass-reflex cabinet provides meaningful low-frequency monitoring down to 44 Hz at −6 dB, giving engineers useful information about kick drum, bass guitar, synth fundamentals and low-end buildup. The tweeter is handmade to PSI Audio’s requirements and integrated through a 3.5 kHz crossover for clear midrange detail, focused top-end information and an accurate stereo image.

PSI Audio’s CPR, or Compensated Phase Response, is designed to control phase behaviour through the crossover region. This supports sharp stereo imaging, clear transient definition and stable depth perception. In practical work, the controlled phase response helps engineers make more reliable decisions about vocal position, reverb and delay tails, panning and mono compatibility.

The A17-M also uses PSI Audio’s AOI, or Active Output Impedance, technology. AOI is designed to improve driver control and reduce unwanted resonance effects. Together with the analogue crossover and dedicated amplification, it contributes to tighter bass, controlled low-frequency decay and a more informative presentation at both low and higher monitoring levels.

The monitor offers Class A/B amplification and reaches up to 115 dB peak SPL at one metre. With a typical listening distance of approximately 0.7 to 2 metres, it is suited to desktop production, monitor stands, compact control rooms, edit suites and smaller professional mix environments. Its 75° horizontal and 40° vertical dispersion creates a focused but usable listening window while reducing some unnecessary energy toward nearby surfaces.

The rear panel features a balanced XLR input, input-sensitivity adjustment and 100 Hz bass-roll-off control. This makes it easier to integrate the A17-M into professional monitor-controller, audio-interface and analogue studio chains, while also adapting it for stand, desk or near-wall placement.

The Metal Black finish gives the A17-M a discreet professional appearance. Every monitor is individually measured and calibrated before delivery, helping ensure consistent stereo matching and dependable use in stereo, surround or immersive-monitoring applications.

The A17-M belongs first in Studio Monitors and is a strong choice for nearfield mixing, detailed production work and critical listening in smaller rooms. Its neutral, fully analogue presentation can also appeal to listeners building a compact active stereo system, but its central purpose remains accurate professional monitoring.
