From Cable Clutter to an Elegant Solution
As a headphone enthusiast, one thing had always bothered me: the coherent appearance of a high-end hi-fi system—carefully assembled from selected components and capable of inspiring sound—was easily disrupted by headphones left lying around. Even when placed on conventional stands, they were often surrounded by unattractive cable clutter.
One day, while looking at the LP covers displayed in frames on the wall above my hi-fi system, an idea emerged: why not present premium headphones in a similarly considered way, while incorporating a genuinely practical solution for the cable at the same time?
This would make it possible to integrate one or several headphones harmoniously into a home media environment. The idea for Headphone Gallery was born.
A Night of Design Thinking
As an experienced audio developer, I quickly realised that this product innovation would need design support. Several designers submitted concepts, but their choice of materials, production methods and overall visual language leaned more towards industrial design than an exclusive, handcrafted product.
A late-night design session brought the breakthrough. Starting from the original concept, a completely new design emerged with a substantially more refined character: no distracting frame, more premium materials, more flexible wall mounting, an improved headphone support and an optimised front-panel fixing system.
The result gives an unobstructed view of the headphones themselves. In collaboration with a master carpenter and the production manager for acrylic-glass fabrication, the initial overnight concept was developed into a mature product with technically convincing details.
