Barefoot Sound MicroStack45 – Stereo Monitoring System with Dual-Force Subwoofers
The Barefoot Sound MicroStack45 combines two MicroMain45 active three-way monitors with two MicroSub45 subwoofers to create a complete stereo reference system.
Across the four enclosures, six 8-inch woofers, four 2.5-inch midrange drivers and two 1-inch ring-radiator tweeters work with 2,220 watts of combined amplifier power. Dedicated 80 Hz integration filters connect the monitors and subwoofers, while MEME technology provides alternative reference voicings for checking mix translation.
It is a modular approach to monitoring for studios that need deeper bass coverage without moving to a single large main-monitor enclosure.
Two three-way monitors, two dedicated subwoofers
Each MicroMain45 contains one 8-inch woofer, two 2.5-inch aluminium-cone midrange drivers and a 1-inch ring-radiator tweeter.
Each MicroSub45 adds two opposing 8-inch woofers. Together, the stereo system therefore contains six 8-inch low-frequency drivers—not six drivers in each stack.
The arrangement combines a dedicated three-way monitor with a separate low-frequency section for each side. It is designed as a stereo monitoring system, rather than a single shared subwoofer added to an otherwise unrelated pair of speakers.
Dual-Force technology in the MicroSub45
The MicroSub45 uses Barefoot’s Dual-Force arrangement: two opposing woofers operate together acoustically while their mechanical reaction forces act in opposite directions.
This configuration is designed to reduce cabinet movement and vibration at the source. It does not eliminate room resonances or remove the need for careful placement.
Barefoot specifies the MicroSub45’s low-frequency −3 dB point at 25 Hz, extending monitoring into a region that the MicroMain45 alone does not cover to the same level.
80 Hz high-pass integration
The MicroSub45 incorporates a balanced analogue high-pass filter at 80 Hz for the signal feeding the MicroMain45.
This is an important distinction from a full-bandwidth pass-through connection: the main monitor receives a high-passed signal, while the subwoofer handles the lower-frequency region.
Routing, polarity, level and positioning should still be checked as part of the complete installation. The presence of a crossover does not automatically compensate for every room or placement.
2,220 watts across the stereo system
Each MicroMain45 provides 610 watts of combined amplifier power: 250 W for the woofer, 180 W for the midrange section and 180 W for the tweeter.
Each MicroSub45 adds 500 W. Across two monitors and two subwoofers, the total is 2,220 W.
These figures describe the installed amplifier stages. They are not a continuous acoustic-output rating or the electrical power consumption of the system.
MEME monitor emulation
Barefoot’s Multi-Emphasis Monitor Emulation provides alternative voicings through the same monitoring system.
Use the reference presentation for your main decisions, then select another voicing to reconsider vocal balance, midrange emphasis and how important details survive a different playback character.
MEME is a translation-checking tool, not automatic room correction. It does not reproduce every acoustic property of a separate loudspeaker or remove the influence of the listening room.
Analogue connection with internal digital processing
The MicroMain45 accepts balanced analogue line-level audio through XLR. Internally, the signal is converted to 24-bit/192 kHz digital audio for processing.
The MicroStack45 therefore should not be described as an entirely analogue system. Its analogue input provides compatibility with suitable audio interfaces, monitor controllers and mixing consoles while retaining Barefoot’s internal processing architecture.
No external speaker power amplifier is required.
Sealed enclosures and modular installation
The monitors and subwoofers use sealed enclosures, with machined aluminium baffles and internal acoustic damping.
The modular arrangement allows the system to be installed as two monitor/subwoofer stacks. Follow Barefoot’s instructions for support, alignment, ventilation and safe handling: each MicroMain45 weighs approximately 17 kg, and each MicroSub45 approximately 20.5 kg.
Stable supports and a planned installation are essential. Do not assume that a stand suitable for the monitor alone can safely carry a complete stack.
An upgrade path for MicroMain45 owners
Existing MicroMain45 owners can add a pair of compatible MicroSub45 subwoofers to create a MicroStack45 system.
This provides a way to expand an established monitoring setup rather than replace the main monitors. Confirm the required connections, accessories and compatibility of the existing units before ordering an upgrade package.
Is the MicroStack45 right for your studio?
Choose the MicroStack45 if you want a complete stereo system combining dedicated three-way monitors, two force-cancelling subwoofers and integrated low-frequency filtering.
It is particularly relevant when deep-bass decisions are important to your production or mixing work. Room dimensions, listening level and acoustic treatment still determine how effectively that capability translates to the listening position.
