Compressors

Studio compressors control dynamics, transients and perceived loudness in recording, mixing and mastering chains. The right design depends on the task: FET and VCA compressors are often chosen for fast, controlled gain reduction, while opto and vari-mu designs can react more program-dependently and add a distinct musical character. Source material, desired control behaviour, sidechain options, stereo or M/S operation and gain structure should guide the final choice.
