Audio interfaces connect microphones, instruments, analogue studio equipment and digital audio devices to computers, DAWs and monitoring systems. Input and output count, mic-preamp and AD/DA conversion quality, driver stability, latency, connection format and expansion options via ADAT, AES/EBU, Dante or other digital formats should guide the final choice. Depending on the setup, an audio interface can also serve as a converter, monitor controller or central hub for recording, mixing and mastering.
