The PSI Audio A226-MAIN Left Dark Red is the left-channel version of PSI Audio’s flagship active main-monitor system. Its fully analogue four-driver architecture combines two symmetrically arranged 10-inch woofers, an EXD midrange driver and a new aluminium-coil tweeter for full-range precision, exceptional headroom and phase-controlled mastering-grade monitoring.
The PSI Audio A226-MAIN Left Dark Red is a flagship active main monitor created for mastering studios, high-end mix rooms, large control rooms and immersive-production environments where monitoring must remain accurate at high playback levels and over longer listening distances. Designed and handmade in Switzerland, it is PSI Audio’s most ambitious studio loudspeaker: a fully analogue three-way system with four drivers, more than 700 W of amplifier power and low-frequency extension to 20 Hz.
This product is the left-channel version. It is intended to be used with the corresponding A226-MAIN Right monitor in a stereo system. The rotatable midrange/tweeter section allows the driver layout to be configured correctly for the left side of the listening position, preserving the intended symmetry, dispersion and stereo image.
The A226-MAIN uses two 10-inch woofers in a symmetrical D’Appolito-style arrangement around PSI Audio’s proprietary Extended Dome Driver midrange and a newly developed handmade tweeter with an aluminium voice coil. The two woofers reproduce the same low-frequency signal and are placed symmetrically to create a controlled acoustic radiation pattern, broad listening area and reduced floor and ceiling interaction. This configuration supports powerful but differentiated bass, while the dedicated midrange and tweeter preserve clarity in the most critical vocal, instrumental and spatial information.
The entire audio path is fully analogue. There is no DSP, digital crossover or conversion stage inside the A226-MAIN. PSI Audio uses dedicated Class G/H and Class A/B amplification, purpose-built drivers, advanced analogue crossover design and individual anechoic calibration to deliver low latency, direct transient response and reliable mix translation.
The dual woofer section is powered by 500 W of total amplification, with 250 W allocated to each woofer. The EXD midrange receives 150 W, while the aluminium-coil tweeter receives 65 W. This powerful four-amplifier configuration provides substantial headroom and enables the A226-MAIN to remain composed during high-SPL work, dense orchestral arrangements, bass-heavy electronic music, cinematic production and critical mastering sessions.
The monitor reaches from 20 Hz to 23 kHz at −6 dB, with a tight ±1.2 dB tolerance from 38 Hz to 20 kHz. This gives it genuine full-range capability without automatically requiring a subwoofer. Engineers can make confident decisions about sub-bass, kick drum extension, bass guitar, low-frequency phase relationships and the balance between deep energy and midrange intelligibility.
PSI Audio’s CPR, Compensated Phase Response, maintains controlled phase behaviour through the crossover regions. The A226-MAIN is specified for phase tolerance of ±45° from 150 Hz to 20 kHz, supporting coherent transient response, accurate depth perception and highly stable stereo imaging. This is particularly valuable in mastering and high-end mixing, where very small changes to EQ, compression, panning, ambience and width must remain clearly audible.
The A226-MAIN also uses PSI Audio’s AOI, Active Output Impedance, technology. AOI actively controls driver behaviour to reduce unwanted resonance and improve bass damping. Combined with the reinforced multi-chamber MDF enclosure and dual Flow Guide bass-reflex system, it contributes to tight low-frequency decay, controlled dynamics and clean high-level operation.
The A226-MAIN delivers 113 dB continuous SPL, 116 dB short-term SPL and up to 126 dB peak SPL at one metre. Its 80° horizontal by 40° vertical dispersion creates a broad but controlled monitoring window. The recommended listening distance is approximately 2 to 5.5 metres, making it ideal for midfield and main-monitor installations in professional control rooms.
With a 960 mm height, 60 kg cabinet weight and 20 Hz low-frequency reach, the A226-MAIN is a serious installed monitoring system. The Dark Red finish gives it PSI Audio’s distinctive studio identity, while each monitor is individually calibrated before delivery. For a complete stereo system, use one A226-MAIN Left and one A226-MAIN Right monitor.
