The Ex Machina Gravity is a passive subwoofer pair developed exclusively for the Terra reference monitoring system. Powered directly by Terra’s rear-panel amplification and integrated through coordinated digital processing, Gravity expands a Terra stereo setup into a full-range 2.2 monitoring system. This listing includes two Gravity subwoofers; Terra monitors are required for operation and are sold separately.

Gravity is designed as a unified extension of Terra rather than a conventional standalone subwoofer. It contains no internal amplifiers or electronics. Terra provides the necessary power, crossover processing, time alignment and system calibration, avoiding the need for separate amplification or an independent bass-management processor.

Each subwoofer uses a 26 cm PuriFi PTT10.0W96-08 driver with a custom concave aluminium diaphragm. Its hybrid motor architecture and symmetrical surround geometry are engineered to maintain linear behaviour during the substantial excursions required for deep-bass reproduction. The diaphragm’s shape increases bending stiffness within the low-frequency operating range, supporting controlled reproduction of bass transients and sustained low-frequency material.

A zero-phase LR4 digital crossover at 80 Hz coordinates Gravity with Terra. The integrated processing is designed to preserve coherent timing and phase behaviour across the transition between the subwoofers and monitors. User-adjustable delay compensation and gain trim provide additional flexibility for system setup, while support for a discrete LFE input accommodates compatible multichannel workflows.

With Gravity added, the complete Terra system is specified within ±1.5 dB from 30 Hz to 30 kHz, with a −6 dB low-frequency extension at 20 Hz. Maximum system output at one metre reaches 112 dB at 1 kHz and 106 dB at 50 Hz. These figures describe the integrated Terra + Gravity system, not the standalone response or output of the passive subwoofers.

The additional extension and headroom are particularly useful for film scoring, game audio, immersive production and music containing substantial low-frequency energy. Gravity allows engineers to assess sub-bass, low-frequency effects, bass dynamics and the relationship between deep-bass content and the rest of the mix within a coordinated reference system.

The enclosure applies Ex Machina’s monocoque aluminium construction to dedicated subwoofer duty. A 12 mm aluminium extrusion incorporates 25 mm ribbing at the corners and centre wall points. Solid 19 mm front and rear baffles are secured with M12 bolts, creating a rigid assembly designed to resist vibration under demanding low-frequency operation.

The side-firing configuration and shallow enclosure support compact placement and on-wall installation. Integral mounting points use a 200 × 200 mm VESA pattern with M6 fasteners. Each subwoofer weighs 20.4 kg, so all mounting hardware and supports must be appropriately rated for the load and installation conditions.

A pair of Gravity subwoofers provides a distributed low-frequency foundation alongside the Terra monitors. Placement remains an important part of system design: room dimensions, boundaries, listening position and modal behaviour influence the bass response heard at the workstation. Coordinated processing simplifies integration, but does not replace considered positioning or suitable room-acoustic treatment.

Gravity is primarily intended for professional reference monitoring, but a complete Terra + Gravity system can also serve demanding audiophile listening environments. Its central advantage is a matched architecture in which loudspeakers, amplification and digital processing are engineered to work together.

This product includes one pair of Gravity passive subwoofers only. A compatible Ex Machina Terra monitoring system is required; Gravity is not intended for independent use with an arbitrary amplifier or loudspeaker system.
