BAE Audio 1073MPF Dual Channel w/ Filter, No Power Supply
The BAE 1073MPF Single Channel with Filter & Power Supply is the deluxe version of BAE’s popular 1073MP, combining a Class A 1073‑style mic preamp with an inductor‑based high‑pass filter in a compact 19" 1U rack format. It focuses purely on the preamp and filter stages of the legendary 1073 equaliser, delivering the same harmonically rich low end, slight resonant highs and focused mids that define the classic British console sound, while giving you precise control over low‑frequency build‑up before it hits your converters.
At its core, the 1073MPF uses a transformer‑coupled mic input with Carnhill iron and discrete Class A amplifier cards, providing 0–71 dB of gain with a wide 10 Hz to -3 dB at 55 kHz frequency response and an equivalent input noise around -110 dBu. An input impedance selector lets you switch between approximately 1200 and 300 ohms, so you can maximise clarity and headroom or deliberately load dynamics and ribbons for a thicker, more vintage‑style tone. In addition to the mic input, there is a balanced line‑level XLR input on the rear for using the unit as a line preamp to add depth and colour to stems, mix buses and outboard chains, plus a high‑impedance DI input on the front for passive and active guitars, basses and synthesizers.
The added inductor‑based high‑pass filter is borrowed directly from the full 1073 design and is one of the main reasons to choose the MPF version. With a musical 18 dB‑per‑octave slope and four switchable cutoff frequencies at 50 Hz, 80 Hz, 160 Hz and 300 Hz, it lets you tighten low end, remove rumble and keep compressors from over‑reacting to sub‑bass energy, all while preserving the thickness and warmth that people expect from a 1073‑style preamp. A front‑panel output level control gives you fader‑like control over the level going to tape or converters, so you can drive the input and transformers for colour and then trim the output as needed.
Supplied with a dedicated external regulated linear 24 V power supply, the 1073MPF Single is ready to drop straight into a studio rack, and the PSU can power up to four channels of 1073MP/MPF as your front‑end grows. With its combination of genuine 1073‑style Class A tone, flexible impedance selection, DI and line options and a proper inductor high‑pass filter, the BAE 1073MPF Single Channel with Filter & Power Supply is a compact but serious preamp for vocals, instruments and mix‑bus work alike.
