It is a preamp and filter‑only take on the legendary 1073 equaliser, providing the same harmonically rich low end, slightly resonant highs and focused mids as the original, but without the EQ section – and with an inductor‑based high‑pass filter for precise low‑frequency control.
 
Built around an all Class A, transformer‑coupled signal path in a 19" 1U chassis, the 1073MPF uses a Carnhill‑based mic input and discrete amplifier cards similar to those in BAE’s full 1073 and 1084 units. It offers 0–71 dB of gain with a wide 10 Hz to -3 dB at 55 kHz frequency response and an equivalent input noise of roughly -110 dBu, making it equally at home on ribbons, dynamics and condensers.
