The PSI Audio AVAA C20 Arctic White is a fully analogue active bass trap designed to control low-frequency room modes in professional studios, mastering rooms, control rooms and high-end listening spaces. Its Arctic White cabinet provides a discreet alternative for bright, modern studios, residential listening rooms and interior-led installations, while the acoustic technology is identical to the Black version.
Instead of changing the source signal or applying digital room correction, the AVAA C20 operates directly in the acoustic environment. It reduces excess low-frequency energy and shortens the decay of standing room modes between 15 Hz and 150 Hz. This is especially relevant in rooms where bass notes are uneven, where particular frequencies build up excessively, where deep bass lingers too long or where room resonance makes it difficult to assess pitch, timing and tonal balance accurately.
The AVAA name stands for Active Velocity Acoustic Absorber. The C20 is not a loudspeaker, does not reproduce programme material and is not a conventional noise-cancelling device. Its active analogue system uses a microphone, acoustic resistance and controlled membrane to absorb energy from low-frequency standing waves. During normal use, it does not produce an audible signal; it operates as a compact acoustic pressure sink that helps room modes decay more quickly.
Low-frequency room problems are often difficult to solve with conventional treatment alone, because effective passive bass absorption generally requires substantial material depth and room volume. PSI Audio specifies the AVAA C20 as providing absorption efficiency comparable with a passive absorber up to 25 times larger, depending on frequency and placement. This makes it a practical solution where large passive bass traps would take up too much space, conflict with interior requirements or be unsuitable for a working studio or listening room.
The AVAA C20 is 100% analogue and uses no DSP, no digital conversion and no latency. It does not require individual tuning or calibration to a specific room in typical applications. For best performance, position it close to room boundaries or corners, where low-frequency pressure and modal energy accumulate. The final number of units and their positions depend on room dimensions, loudspeaker location, listening position, modal behaviour and the desired degree of low-frequency control.
The AVAA C20 is designed for the deep-bass range. It should be considered part of an overall acoustic strategy rather than a replacement for every form of room treatment. Broadband absorbers, acoustic panels and diffusers remain important for controlling reflections, reverberation and spatial behaviour at medium and high frequencies. The AVAA C20 specifically addresses the difficult low-frequency range in which room modes are most intrusive and passive solutions are most demanding in size.
The PSI Audio AVAA C20 Arctic White is suitable for recording rooms, mix rooms, mastering studios, broadcast and post-production facilities, high-end HiFi systems and dedicated listening rooms. A single unit can improve a problematic area; a pair is often an effective starting point for normal stereo rooms. The unit is compact, mobile and easy to relocate as loudspeaker placement, room layout or the wider system changes.
Finished in Arctic White, the AVAA C20 integrates visually into light-coloured rooms without sacrificing technical performance. It offers a practical means of improving bass precision, shortening low-frequency reverberation and increasing the reliability of monitoring and music reproduction by treating the physical behaviour of the room itself.
