Wizard begins with adjustable input and output gain. Raising the input level drives the tube stages harder, increasing harmonic content and saturation. Reducing input level keeps the signal cleaner and more transparent. The output control allows accurate level matching after processing, making it easier to judge tonal changes rather than being influenced by loudness differences.
The Feed control provides unusually direct control over saturation intensity. By reducing the clean signal component at the output, Feed increases the proportion of saturated signal without simply relying on additional input drive. This allows engineers to move from subtle analogue enhancement to dense, obvious tube colour while preserving practical gain staging.
Bias control shapes the character of the tube saturation itself. The three Bias positions—Cold, Sweet and Hot—offer different tonal responses. Cold produces a more aggressive, edgy and clipping-oriented texture for creative effects and pronounced harmonic distortion. The integrated three-band preset EQ provides bass, midrange and high-frequency shaping before the saturation stage, making it possible to emphasise or restrain selected frequency regions before their harmonics are created.
The low band offers shelving options at 60 Hz and 120 Hz, the midrange section provides 300 Hz, 800 Hz and 1.5 kHz selections, and the high band offers shelving at 2 kHz or 4 kHz. This pre-saturation placement is especially useful because EQ changes affect not only the final tonal balance, but also the harmonic structure produced by the valve stages.
Wizard also includes Pressure, a smooth dynamics section inspired by classic Vari-Mu compression principles. Positioned after the output stage, Pressure can gently control peaks, add cohesion and support a more finished sound without requiring a separate compressor. Its dynamics indicator helps users monitor the amount of control being applied.
