The BeesNeez BC12A Tube is a large-diaphragm multi-pattern tube condenser microphone that combines classic C12a influences with BeesNeez capsule manufacturing and modern studio versatility. Built around a dual-diaphragm brass CK12 capsule, a NOS Raytheon 5784WB tube and a custom output transformer, it provides a characterful recording option for vocals, acoustic instruments and sessions requiring adaptable directional control.

At the centre of the design is BeesNeez’s recreation of the complex, multi-chambered brass CK12 capsule. The BC12A Tube uses the company’s insulated aluminium diaphragm construction, combining the original capsule concept with a contemporary manufacturing approach. This capsule forms the foundation of a tonal presentation that BeesNeez describes as airy in the high frequencies, smooth through the midrange and natural in the low end.

The NOS Raytheon 5784WB tube is selected for its low-noise characteristics and rich tonal contribution. It works with a BeesNeez 13:1 E-core output transformer as part of the microphone’s complete circuit. Rather than adopting the operating configuration of the phantom-powered BC12A FET, the Tube version offers a dedicated valve signal path and external power supply.

Nine selectable polar patterns cover omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-eight, with intermediate positions for more detailed adjustment. This flexibility allows engineers to shape the relationship between the source, room ambience and neighbouring instruments without changing microphones. It also provides additional scope for experimenting with placement and the character of a recording.

Cardioid is a useful starting point for close vocal and instrument recording where reduced rear pickup is desirable. Omnidirectional settings offer an alternative when the room’s contribution is welcome, while figure-eight provides strong side rejection and pickup from the front and rear. Intermediate settings allow finer control over the balance of direct sound and acoustic space.

For vocal sessions, the BC12A Tube offers a large-diaphragm tube option when an open presentation and smooth tonal balance suit the performer. Its pattern flexibility also makes it relevant to acoustic guitar, piano, strings and room recording. As with any characterful studio microphone, the best results depend on matching its presentation to the source and choosing an appropriate distance and orientation.

The manufacturer specifies an approximate frequency response of 20 Hz to 22 kHz, sensitivity of 24 mV/Pa and a maximum sound pressure level of approximately 120 dB. Output impedance is approximately 150 ohms, with a recommended load of 1 kilohm or higher. These figures provide a practical starting point for selecting a compatible microphone preamplifier and planning recording levels.

The compact body and flat grille are intended to minimise reflections around the microphone while making placement manageable. This is useful when positioning the microphone around instruments or fitting it into an existing vocal setup without the footprint of a larger vintage-style housing.

The BC12A Tube is supplied as a complete microphone package with its dedicated power supply, shock mount, 7-pin XLR cable and black hard carry case. It requires the external supply for operation and does not run directly from standard 48 V phantom power. Connect and configure the system according to the supplied instructions, including confirmation of the correct mains setting.

For engineers seeking CK12 capsule character, a valve signal path and multiple directional options, the BC12A Tube provides a distinct alternative to the fixed-cardioid BC12A FET. Its appeal lies in the combination of capsule construction, tube circuitry and pattern flexibility, supported by an accessory package ready for studio integration.
