The BAE 1023 19" 1RU Rack with Power Supply is a hand‑wired Class A mic preamp and EQ that takes the classic 1073‑style console sound and pushes it further. You get the same unmistakable mic/line preamp character that made the 1073 legendary, but with a far more flexible 3‑band EQ section that adds extra mid and high frequency points for detailed tone shaping. In short, it is a “deluxe 1073” in a compact 1RU chassis, ready to become the main recording front‑end in a serious studio.
 
Inside, the 1023 uses Carnhill (St. Ives) transformers and high‑quality discrete components to deliver a harmonically rich low end, solid, focused mids and a smooth, open top end that sits in a mix without effort. The EQ section offers a low shelf with selectable frequencies at 35Hz, 60Hz, 110Hz and 220Hz, plus a high shelf with 10kHz, 12kHz, 16kHz, 20kHz and 24kHz, each with ±16dB of gain. In between sits an extended mid band with eleven centre frequencies from 160Hz all the way up to 10kHz, available with ±12dB or ±18dB peaking, so you can carve presence and weight far more precisely than on a standard 1073‑style module.
 
A steep 18dB/octave high‑pass filter with switchable cutoff points at 45Hz, 70Hz, 160Hz and 360Hz helps you tighten low end and keep mud out of your recordings before they hit the converters. On the front panel you also get mic/line selection, a high‑impedance DI input, an impedance switch for matching different microphones, phase reverse, EQ in/out and 48 V phantom power. The included external 24 V power supply keeps mains hum away from the signal path and can power multiple BAE rack units, making the 1023 both robust and easy to integrate into any professional rack.
