Audient Horizon 8P – Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface with 8 Console Preamps
The Audient Horizon 8P brings the sound and workflow of a high-end recording console into a compact, silent 1U Thunderbolt 3 audio interface. Designed for professional tracking, multi-mic recording and demanding hybrid-studio workflows, it combines eight genuine Audient Console Mic Preamps with high-resolution conversion, extensive analogue connectivity and flexible monitor control.
At the heart of Horizon 8P are eight microphone preamps based on David Dearden’s renowned Audient console design. With up to 75 dB of gain, digitally recallable preamp settings and ORBIT Control variable input impedance, Horizon 8P provides a highly adaptable recording front end for condenser, dynamic and ribbon microphones.
ORBIT Control offers High, Mid and Low impedance voicings, allowing engineers to change the electrical interaction between a microphone and the preamp. Depending on the microphone, source and gain structure, this can influence tonal balance, transient response, loading and perceived density. High is a useful starting point for an open, lightly loaded presentation, while Mid provides a balanced all-round setting. Low offers more assertive loading and can be particularly useful with selected dynamic and ribbon microphones.
Horizon 8P is built for sessions that need more than a basic desktop interface. Eight high-quality analogue recording channels are ready for drums, full bands, ensembles, vocals and multi-microphone acoustic instruments. Two front-panel JFET instrument inputs provide a dedicated direct-recording path for guitar and bass.
The interface offers 24 inputs and 32 outputs, including eight balanced line inputs and eight balanced line outputs on DB25. This makes Horizon 8P a natural centrepiece for hybrid studios using compressors, EQs, external preamps, analogue effects, patchbays and summing systems. Four additional balanced TRS line outputs create further routing options for monitor systems, cue feeds, headphone amplifiers and external processing.
Dual ADAT input and output ports allow digital expansion with external microphone preamps and converters. BNC Word Clock input and output help integrate Horizon 8P into larger digital studio systems, while up to four Horizon interfaces can be connected to create a scalable system with up to 200 × 200 I/O.
For monitoring, Horizon 8P provides dual monitor outputs for A/B speaker comparison, two headphone outputs and direct hardware functions including mono, polarity, dim, talkback and selectable reference level. Horizon Control software adds a flexible routing matrix, custom monitor configurations and four independent mixes for control-room and artist-cue workflows.
With 32-bit / 192 kHz mastering-grade conversion, up to 133 dB dynamic range and round-trip latency as low as 0.99 ms at 192 kHz with a 64-sample buffer, Horizon 8P is designed for responsive native plug-in tracking without reliance on a proprietary DSP platform. Actual latency depends on the connected Mac, DAW, sample rate, buffer size and session complexity.
Horizon 8P connects through Thunderbolt 3 and is designed for macOS-based recording systems. Its fanless 1U metal chassis makes it a suitable choice for control rooms and recording spaces where silent operation matters.
Important compatibility note: Audient Horizon 8P requires a compatible Thunderbolt 3 connection and is designed for macOS systems. Please check your computer’s Thunderbolt compatibility before ordering.
